Ya, so I'm thinking about buying an ND-400, the only thing holding me back is the price. I'm debating waiting or buying one now. My favorite kind of photography is Fine Art Long Exposure (like the photo of mine "A Beacon In Time") and I can't take any of it unless it's 8:00 p.m. and after dark, and that's no fun. I want to be taking photos all day long. Right now I use an HMC ND-8 and like I said, for really long exposures I can only use it (effectively) after the sun goes down and I'm the only one around. I've also thought about stacking a 6-stop ND filter with my 3-stop ND filter to save some money since both scenarios are 9-stop filters... I'm still stuck. If anyone has input on the better idea, I need to know. I know equipment doesn't make the photographer, but I think in this case it does haha... thanks in advance, I appreciate it!

Oh, and I forgot to mention that the filter I need is a 72mm filter, so it's not like it's a cheapo 58mm filter. It'll easily be $90-$120, and if buying a 6-stop filter to stack is cheaper in the end than so be it... thanks again everyone!

I saw your work on this feature [link] and was happy to see someone else from th SD area. Nice gallery you have. SHould be interesting to see where you go with your long exposure photography.
I still do it old school.
I do love those long exposure shots though, especially with the water in them. Water and clouds even better. Have considered getting a filter to help out on the lighting conditions.
