Jordan Roberts Photography

Jökulsárlón Beach, Iceland

Often called iceberg beach this location is more like purgatory than anything else. The further up the beach you walk the less ice chips there are with better, less-cluttered photo opportunities.

Thanks, and you should! It's any photographer's dream. So many contrasting subjects and colors.

Yeah I know. =) What time for a trip would you suggest? Do you think it's possible to combine the ice on the shores with the growing moss? I though that might work in May...

I went the first week of November and this is what it looked like the whole trip. We did get to see the Aurora on the last couple days though up north. Honestly, if you wouldn't mind the crowds I would say May-September. I didn't want to deal with loads of people though so that's why we went in the off-season. And even then there were enough people to deal with.

Well I don't need many people either haha. What did not work as you've expected/ wanted it- why you would say May-September? Anything special going on at that time ( I mean it's Iceland and that is always special of course haha)?

Our car didn't work haha. It broke down a few times and we essentially lost out on an entire day of shooting. Pretty frustrating. But anyway May-September is the tourist season because it's warmer and greener. When we went everything was dead so a lot of photo opportunities were lost because of it. It was overcast ALL day long and I mean socked in fog so most sunset/sunrise shots were stifled. Good for shots like this I guess ^.

That's really nice. The ice block looks so weird. So are the beaches in Iceland black as in Tenerife?

They are very similar to Hawaiian black sand beaches.

Just a bit more powdery in my opinion

I've never been to Hawaii but in Tenerife the sand is tiny flat discs like coins. It doesn't stick to you for long either.

Yeah, at first I wished that I had been able to go, but it just got really cold here (cold compared to past weather, not compared to actual cold), and  I do not want to get any colder.
