Let Darkness Consume by Jordan-Roberts Let Darkness Consume by Jordan-Roberts

Jordan Roberts Photography

Alvord Desert Playa, Oregon

I purposely camped here during a storm hoping the clouds would move around faster and get into position better but it ended up not being the case. This formation became a lenticular cloud about an hour after this shot, stayed that way for the rest of the day and by sunset it was hailing and very dark out. A lot of times nature mocks you for standing around for hours and wasting all this time for shots just to give you nothing. So, by the end of my trip I felt defeated and drove the long drive home wondering the entire time why I even spend the money and time. Then I opened my RAWs and realized I may be able to salvage this shot with some abstract-ness. So here it is, pretty simple editing I guess.

I think the simplicity is what works here! The cracked foreground really plays well against the smoothness in the clouds. Definitely glad you decided to salvage something. Awesome image, Jordan!

Definitely something to be said for just shooting anyway even when you think it won't turn out well!

Haha ya, we've gotta go back for sure in summer man! It'd be prime to be able to camp out on the playa and not worry about wet season ;)
